Hey,
Matteo here from Kinetyca.
The most common question we get right now: should we use Claude or Clay?
It is the wrong question. After running both inside our client systems for the past year, here is what we actually know.
WHERE CLAUDE WINS
1. Initial strategy and brainstorming
👉 You can drop in Firefly recordings, Slack threads, client briefs, and email threads. Claude reads all of it, builds the GTM strategy from raw context, and keeps it updated automatically. Clay cannot do any of this.
2. Analytics review and suggestions
👉 Every week, Claude pulls campaign data, reads positive and negative replies, and tells you exactly what to fix and why. It reviews the analytics and gives you specific suggestions based on actual results, not guesses.
3. Campaign updates without humans in the loop
👉 Once Claude sees the analytics and the suggestions, it updates the campaigns directly. No copy-paste, no manual rewrites, no rebuilding sequences from scratch. The loop closes itself.
This is how we are implementing Claude at Kinetyca right now. The knowledge is central, the learning is shared across the whole team, and it updates automatically.
WHERE CLAY WINS
1. Sophisticated ABM plays
👉 Website visitor campaigns, competitor targeting, event-based plays, inbound enrichment, key account workflows. You need control and cost forecasting at the row level. Clay gives you both. You can see exactly what is happening before you spend a single credit.
2. Lead management and CRM sync
👉 Reply lands, sentiment runs, AI qualifies, owner gets assigned, Salesforce or HubSpot updates with the right data fields. Every step is visible and controllable. When a lead is misqualified or incorrectly assigned, that is a real problem. You cannot afford to not see it happening.
3. Repetitive enrichment that already works
👉 If the play is already dialled in and it is working, there is no reason to introduce risk. Clay just runs. Cheaper, faster, predictable.
THE $600 MISTAKE
Before we figured out the right structure, we handed Claude an API key for email finding.
It used it for everything. Domain enrichment, LinkedIn profile lookup, email finding, things we never asked it to do. In one day we spent $600 on work that should have cost $10.
The lesson: Claude needs proper structure and properly scoped API keys before it runs anything at scale. Without that, costs skyrocket fast.
THE BOTTOM LINE
You do not have to choose one. The strongest setup we have built runs both.
Claude handles the thinking, the strategy, the analytics, and the campaign optimisation. Clay handles the structure, the enrichment, the lead management, and the CRM sync.
