Hey there,
Matteo here from Kinetyca.
When we onboard a new client, the first thing we do is audit what they were running before.
And nine times out of ten, it's immediately clear why the results weren't there.
The list is too broad. The copy is generic. The sequence is one email. There's no signal, no enrichment, no real personalisation. Just a tool pointed at a big CSV and a lot of hope.
The good news is none of this is hard to fix. It's just a different way of building the system.
The teams hitting 20-30% reply rates aren't using better tools. They're running a fundamentally different approach. Here's what that looks like.
1. SMALL LISTS WIN
Micro-lists of 500-1,000 hyper-targeted prospects consistently outperform 100K contact blasts. Reply rates of 20-30% vs. 2-3%. Fewer, better contacts beat more, worse ones every time.
2. SIGNALS BEFORE LISTS
The best campaigns don't start with a list. They start with a trigger.
- A company just posted 5 AE roles, they're in growth mode
- A funding round just closed, new budget is live
- A new tool just appeared in their stack, the door is open
This is what separates a list from a pipeline.
3. ENRICH EVERYTHING
Go beyond name and email. Pull via Clay:
- LinkedIn headline and profile
- Job postings and hiring signals
- Technologies used
- Funding history
- Case studies and company news
Personalisation at scale requires data at scale.
4. LET AI WRITE THE OPENER
Feed the signal into Claude. Let it generate the first line.
Instead of: "Hey John, hope all is well at [Company]"
- Hiring signal: "Saw you're scaling your AE team..."
- Funding news: "Congrats on the Series B..."
- Tech stack: "Noticed you recently added [tool]..."
Every email feels 1:1. At scale.
5. LEAD WITH VALUE, NOT AN ASK
Stop pitching calendar spots in email 1. You haven't earned it yet.
- ❌ "Can we hop on a call tomorrow at 2pm?"
- ❌ "Do you have 15 minutes to chat?"
- ✅ "Want me to send over a quick example deck?"
- ✅ "Can I send something that solves [specific pain]?"
Let them raise their hand first. Then you've earned the conversation.
6. RUN A 4-STEP SEQUENCE
Most replies don't come from email 1. The sequence matters.
- Email 1: Personalised opener + value offer
- Email 2: Short follow-up (3-5 days later)
- Email 3: New angle or additional value (3-5 days later)
- Email 4: Breakup (3-5 days later)
Keep each one to 2-4 sentences. Reference the original. Add new value every time.
7. PROTECT YOUR DELIVERABILITY
None of the above works if you land in spam.
- Multiple domains, not one
- 30 emails per inbox per day max
- 30-day minimum warm-up
- Proper SPF, DKIM, DMARC setup
- Clean, validated lists only
Sending 100 emails/hour from one inbox = spam city.
THE STACK WE RUN
- Clay: enrichment, signal capture, personalisation data
- Smartlead: sequencing, deliverability, inbox rotation
- Claude: AI-generated openers from signal context
Cold email isn't a magic pill.
It's a compounding system. And like any system, it needs to be built properly before it produces results.
If you want us to audit your current setup and build this out for your team, we’re opening 2 spots in June for exactly that.
